Seoul weather can be described as temperate and continental.  It is colder and drier than the rest of Korea; however, Seoul weather is fairly mild, due to the fact that the city is being surrounded by water.  The best time to visit Seoul is considered to be during spring and autumn, when the weather is pleasantly mild and dry.

Summer weather in Seoul is hot and rainy.  August is the hottest month of the year, when the temperature can be as high as 30 °C.  The average temperature during summer ranges between the 22 °C and 30 °C.  The monsoon winds occur between June and September, which brings most of the annual precipitation.  Seoul weather during winter can be quite chilly, as the average temperature of January ranges from -7 °C to 1 °C.  Seoul weather during winter is very dry, as the humidity level drops sharply.  Seoul receives approximately 28 days of snow throughout the year.

Even though Seoul has a temperate weather with four distinct seasons, the temperature difference between summer and winter is extreme.  This is due to the influence of the North Pacific high-pressure system during summer which brings hot, humid weather with temperatures as high as 35 C.  Whereas in winter the city is influenced by expanding Siberian high-pressure zones and prevailing west winds, which cause the temperature to drop as low as -13.7 C.  The coldest days tend to come in three-day cycles, adjusted by rising and falling pressure systems.
